Bessie and friends traveled from Zanzibar to Mayan temples for a great Saturday night. Luckily, we didn’t have to leave the state to sample both.

Our first meetup was at Wedl’s Hamburger Stand & Ice Cream Parlor. They’re hamburgers are very well reviewed, and we were not disappointed at their delicious flavor. Also on the menu is Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream, made in Madison, Wisconsin. Three of us enjoyed Zanzibar Ice Cream. It’s a new take on chocolate that’s more of a cocoa flavor. Not too sweet, but not too dark. Perfect for that chocolate craving.

Onward just down the road to the Highway 18 Outdoor Theatre. This time, a contingent of Minis came from Madison to enjoy Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Our small group certainly enjoyed making cracks about this film. I couldn’t help noticing it seemed like a patchwork of classic movies and Macgyver episodes. Maybe next time you’ll get it right, Mr. Lucas.

Flurries of MINIs and snow descended on Southeastern Wisconsin for the Spring Drive. Chicago, Milwaukee and Madison MINI clubs joined together for rollercoaster roads and hot chocolate drinks. Hopefully, no one combined the two at the wrong moment. After a morning of gathering MINIs at different locations, we headed for lunch at Houlihan’s in downtown Lake Geneva. A raffle for the American Cancer Society and a fellow club member, Tom (aka MINIShagz), netted me a MC2 Magazine featuring Bessie.

Afterwards, my friends and I took jaunt out to Delvan where we picked up some Peanuts memorablia and a photo opportunity with an elephant. Plus, don’t miss the Smiley face watertower. View Photos…

Fall Color Drive ’07

Madison Minis and Road Trips

The hottest fall drive in Wisconsin was with the Madison MINIs. At 84 degrees and the air conditioning cranked up, it didn’t feel like fall. The changing colors and the falling leaves were marvelous as we wound up hill and down through Dane and Iowa counties. As usual, people stared, people sidled up for a chat and people had lots of fun and their little dogs too. After an afternoon of winding roads, we finished off the evening with sandwiches, onion rings and hot wings at Quaker Steak & Lube. Its automobile and motorbike memorablia was fitting and gravity defying. View Photos…
